Where to buy what, sustainably!

Because "sustainable fashion" no longer means "boring"!

To those of you wondering where to buy yourself the new shirt of your dreams, yet only willing to do so without harming the Earth or other fellow humans.

Here are some key points to note:

Transparency - Sustainability has been a buzzword for a while now. It's cool to care for the planet. So some brands will be jumping on the craze simply to drive profits without being genuine as a company (this is called greenwashing). The brand must be fair to its workers and make an effort to reduce their impact on the planet. There should be info on that in the brand's "About Us" section.

Price - I know, I know, "sustainable fashion is expensive". No it's not, simply a majority of consumers nowadays are used to buying a top with the same price tag as a takeaway coffee. Given the brand is genuine in it's transparency, it's worth the investment. The fork-out will make more sense when you begin to purchase a handful of items per year rather than per week. Most of these brands have sales too!

Durability - These items are a lot more likely to be more durable as they are made carefully and with more appropriate fabrics. The design is considered and reconsidered, cut and sampled over and over, to ensure you end up with a beautiful, long-lasting item!

After-care - Don't wash it unless dirty. Read the care label and only do as it says! Hand wash and air dry for less of an impact on the environment. Mend it, patch it if needed. This way, items could last you a lifetime.

Now, for the brands...
(listing my favourites)

Monkee Genes:  The most trusty jeans brand ever, with the mantra "no blood, no sweat, no tears".

Sancho's Dress: Stockists of several sustainable brands for jumpers, dresses and tees mostly.

Armedangels: Gorgeous staples for him and her. They really know how to put a twist on things.

Reformation: Mostly smokin' hot dresses for swanky ladies.

Patagonia: A simply amazing brand. They repair your damaged items and make really cool (yet actually quite warm) clothing. Outdoors: jackets, bikinis, jumpers, bags... you name it, they got it.

Rapanui: Printed tees about saving the Earth and other basics. Also, customizable!

Lefrik: If backpacks could be best friends, this brand is selling them.

Vejas: They've been everywhere. Other thank looking super stylish, every component is sustainably sourced!

People Tree: One of the longest standing fair trade brands. Contemporary women's everyday pieces.

Ilk and Ernie: Just found them and will never let them go. The prints are beautiful and cuts are so flattering!

Shopping sustainably has never been so easy and I've only just scratched the surface.

For a more in-depth guide go to the Ethical Fashion Guide's list! They know exactly what they're on about.

Pleeaasse remember, the most sustainable garment is already in your wardrobe. The last thing I want to encourage is excessive consumerism. I probably own just a handful of sustainably branded pieces alongside my old wardrobe. If you don't truly need it, give it another think!

Share it with your pals!

See you next time,
